Media Release 06/23/05
On June 20, 2005 the JasCo Metropolitan Police Department received a Multi-functional Night Vision System from the United States Department of Homeland Security through their Direct Assistance Program grant. Out of all police and sheriff departments in Missouri to be chosen, we were one of only 8 to receive the equipment. The Direct Assistance Program grant is a pilot program for small and rural law enforcement agencies to receive state of the art equipment for Homeland Security functions.
The actual award for the program was May 19, 2005, but was not finalized until early June 2005. An Officer was sent to Washington DC to join over 400 other officers from various departments from all over the US for three days of train-the-trainer training, all provided through the program. This training allows for a training program within the awarded agency on proper handling, use and maintenance of the awarded equipment.
The equipment will allow officers to observe suspected criminals in near to total darkness along with being able to take near light images in total darkness by still photograph and video. The equipment may also be used for locating missing persons as well as escaped criminals. The equipment is the same military grade our troops are issued overseas. |
